Amsterdam Day 3

Sunday we were up bright and early because we signed up for a countryside tour!

We left Amsterdam at 9am and drove to the Windmill Farm town of Zaanse Schans. It. Was. GORGEOUS. Such a picturesque little Dutch Town. I fell in love with the green gardens and canals and everything! We walked in a windmill and around the town. These windmills are actually used for the grinding of spices, not for water use at all. It was a short stop and we left after about 20 minutes.

Back on the bus we went to Volendam, a fishing town. Again, beautiful. We toured a cheese shop that also makes its own cheese and watched a tutorial of how they do it. We got to sample loads of cheese that were amazing. When I walked in I noticed some green cheese and thought it would be disgusting, but it turned out to be pesto cheese and it stole my heart so naturally I had to buy some. We were then given about 30 minutes for lunch, so I took the opportunity to get some pancakes! Yum!

We then boarded a boat that took us across the water to another part of town where we did some more exploring.
Back to this bus!
This time we went to Marken and toured a clog factory. The technology to make clogs was so cool! They were made partially by machines and partially by hand. After this tour, we boarded the bus back to Amsterdam, returning around 2pm.

The tour was so beautiful and I cannot stop thinking about the adorable towns. I would love to come back to the Netherlands in the spring and do another countryside tour to look at all the tulips. The rest of the day we walked throughout the city again, just exploring every inch we could. The nice thing about Amsterdam is everything you want to get to is easily in walking distance. Sure you can walk everywhere in London, but it is way more spread out and the tube is necessary. Amsterdam, I never had a need for the tube.
Back to the hostel we went for another comfortable night.

Stay tuned for part 4!
